Restaurant at the Hotel Continental Inn

My favorite thing about this restaurant is you see the big screen TV & then notice the speakers hanging. Well those speakers aren't used for the TV. They'd play a show on the TV & then crank music through the speakers. I mean really crank it. It was so loud most of the time that I could hardly hear myself think. Everyday when I go up there to eat I try to figure out the point of having both of them going at the same time. I still haven't figured it out.
They also, have this cat that goes up there during dinner. Well, I hate cats. Everytime I saw it I lost my appetite. I think the workers kind of got a kick out of how much the cat bothered me. As much as I hate it though, I always found it a comfort that it was still there because, I atleast knew that they hadn't decided to kill it & cook it up for me. At night that same cat roams the hallways keeping me up all night by meowing. I swear if I wasn't against animal cruelty I would've used up all 9 of its lives.

Middle Class??

This here is where the supposed middle class citizens live. Can't wait to see the lower class or slums. They don't have running water, or any type of waste system. They have spots with latrines & they just drop their garbage where ever they want to. I don't get how we consider this middle class. It's really dirty & smells awful. Very sad that people have to live this way, especially the kids.

The Orhanage

This here is the orphanage that I am currently working in. The left door goes into the boys room & the right to the girls. They are just full of bunk beds & nothing else.

Camels

Spotted these camels just behind the orphanage. The kids thought that it was funny that I wanted to take a picture of them. Whenever they want to try & distract me while we are playing futbol they just say "look there teacher Kioku, camels".

Mishak

This is the funniest kid at the home. His name is Mishak or Misha as everyone calls him. He kind of looks like he might be Ray Charles' son in this picture with my sunglasses on.
So, I've already talked about the teaching sticks. Well if the students misbehave then the teacher will have them put their hands out & then they will smack them on the hand with the stick. Mishak likes to bring me a stick everytime he sees me & then puts out his hands for me, I give him the stick back & put out my hands for him to hit. He gets quite a kick out of it.

Playing grounds

This here is where the kids have a recess & where we all play futbol. Also, where we experimented with baseball & basketball.

Me & Nic

This here is Nicholas & I in his little shop. Nic is the director of the orphanage. He puts in a lot of time & effort on behalf of all the kids. Nic is a great guy. He is my main source of communication throughout the day. He picks me up in the morning & drops me off at night. We've had many great conversations during our walks to & from the orphanage. He fills me in on all the different African traditions & translates for me when the natives are talking to or about me. We also talk about film since Nic would like to one day move to America & work in the film businsess.

My room or cell

This currently is my room or as of late has felt more like my cell. The romantic thing above my bed is the mosquito net.

Christine

Christine is the 2 year old that they put in my class. She is obviously too young to have the attention span needed for a school setting. I just let her wander around, color & hold the stick we use when going over charts. Or as the other teachers would probably call it their beating stick. If I don't let her wander then she just distracts everyone. She is cute though so, that alone is worth having her in my class.

Nairobi

This here is the main city of Nairobi. It's pretty civilized. If you are caught littering in the city you are arrested. Quite a bit different from all the other parts of Nairobi.

Pertet & Raquel

I thought that this was funny & I had to share.
So, today at breakfast Pertet or John told me that I look like Brad Pitt. Haha, I don't know what would make him think that but, I thought that it was pretty funny. He said that it was the hat I had on. Because you always see Brad Pitt with a hat on, I guess.

Me & Raquel. 4th times the charm.

This picture took some time to be taken. It was pretty funny though. Pertet first had the camera facing the wrong way & was going to take a picture of his own face, then he had it upside down, then he hit the wrong button & on the 4th try he got it. You can see the tip of his finger though.

Teaching Doncia

Sorry, this video isn't that great but, I'm having a hard time getting any videos to load. You can atleast hear some of the kids repeating what I say & you get to see Doncia's face. She's so freaking cute.

Cute little Doncia

Her name is Doncia. She is so freaking cute & has an the best personality. If I could take one of the smaller kids it would be her. She's so funny. When they are done doing something in class, you tell them well done & everytime they say "well done, well done, keep it up, keep it up, you are a very good girl/boy. Also, the person that is in front of the class that you say it to puts their hands on their hips & shakes their hips & head back & forth while doing their saying. She is the one that has the most character while doing it. I'm going to record it. She makes me laugh all 20 times throughout the day that she does it. It never gets old.

Futbol Players

From left to right. Joshua, Evans, Musango, Alvin, Eric & John.
Eric & Musango asked me to bring them home to Amercia with me.
Alvin asked to wear & keep my watch.
John said that he wants to go to America some day to play futbol & drive a car. He asked me for futbol shoes & wants me to bring Lindsey & my brothers the next time I come to Kenya.

Me & the guys

I will have a hard time leaving these guys in a week or two. I look forward to playing futbol with them every day. They help me appreciate life & all the many things I am blessed with each and every day. They help keep me going while I am here.
